2027 Kia Seltos Redesign Brings First-Ever Hybrid Power

Kia’s small SUV success story is entering its second act. The fully redesigned 2027 Seltos — revealed at the New York International Auto Show this spring — is beginning to reach U.S. dealers, bringing a bolder design, a dramatically upgraded interior and, for the first time in the nameplate’s history, a hybrid powertrain.

The original Seltos quietly became one of Kia’s smartest plays in America, offering crossover practicality at a price that undercut the compact SUV establishment. The new version aims higher, borrowing design cues and technology from Kia’s larger, more expensive models.

A Hybrid Seltos, At Last

The headline news sits under the hood. Alongside carryover 2.0-liter and 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engines — which arrive first, in the second quarter of 2026 — Kia will add a Seltos Hybrid in late 2026. The system pairs a 1.6-liter gas engine with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic and an electric motor, and it can be had with either front-wheel drive or an electrified all-wheel-drive setup, a rarity in the subcompact class.

That matters because hybrid demand has become the industry’s hottest battleground. With rivals like the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid and Honda HR-V (which still lacks a hybrid in the U.S.) fighting for budget-conscious buyers facing high interest rates, an affordable electrified Seltos could land at precisely the right moment.

Big-Car Tech in a Small Package

Inside, the new Seltos punches far above its price point. Nearly 30 inches of combined screen real estate spans the dashboard: a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen and a separate 5-inch climate display. The cabin is roomier, too — Kia claims class-leading second-row legroom — addressing one of the outgoing model’s few criticisms.

The exterior adopts Kia’s latest design language, with angular lighting signatures and a more upright, rugged stance that pushes the Seltos visually closer to the larger Sportage and Telluride, both of which have proven that adventurous styling sells.

Pricing is expected to stay competitive with the outgoing model when full details are announced closer to the hybrid’s launch. If Kia holds the line on value while adding electrification, the 2027 Seltos could be one of the year’s most significant mainstream launches — not flashy, but exactly the kind of car millions of buyers actually purchase.
